Welcome
Digital lifelogs are records of observations related to some particular entity, such as a user or a physical artefact. Typically, a lifelog is automatically created from input delivered by sensors installed in smart spaces, mobile devices, and so-called smart items (physical artefacts with embedded technology). Such data can be exploited to realize a broad range of novel applications, ranging from reflection of personal experiences to product lifecycle management. From a research point of view, the topic combines aspects of capturing and interpreting real-world data, knowledge representation, and user interface design. Here, particular challenges arise due to the mass of collected data, its granularity, and the effect of time on its representation and interpretation.
Over several years, the DFKI gained expertise in building and exploiting digital lifelogs for users and objects. This webpage provides an overview of running and past activities of DFKI in this field, including research projects, workshops, and teaching.
